Le ride…c’est complète!

Ok, so I know that ‘le ride’ probably isn’t french, but it’s a long time since I was in a french class. A long time.

We completed the Tower 2 Tower bike ride on September 3rd, arriving in Paris around 8pm on the sixth day of pedalling. A phenomenal experience for all of us, we had great weather all the way and little that went wrong.

Apart from arriving at the wrong hotel in Dover, resulting in a short walk the wrong way up a dual carriageway (on the verge!) and then a steep descent down past Dover Castle with, some would say, inadequate lights on our bikes! We were on the pavement, so safety wasn’t an issue. Just one of those things.

Oh and there was the drama 28 miles from the end where my front tyre started to split. Wouldn’t have been a problem, but the support van was safely parked up in Paris and the girls on their way to the Eiffel Tower to greet us. A bit of ingenuity from Dave resulted in packing out the tyre with a gel wrapper…et voila, it held all the way into the city. I really thought that I was going to have to abandon so close to the end and complete the ride the day after. Fortunately we limped home.

As I said, an amazing experience and I know we all really enjoyed it. Roll on the next one…umm…err…actually, maybe I’ll take a little break before I hit the road again.

Well done to everyone – Anthony, Dave, Emma, Chris – not to mention Denise, Laura and Jackie for their amazing support van duties.

And thanks to everyone who supported us through donations. It’s really appreciated. We haven’t closed the JustGiving page yet, so if you’d like to chip a few pounds in, it’s still gratefully received. We’re almost at £8,000 and it’d be nice to cross that line.

Pictures will follow. Check back soon.

“wrong way up a dual carriageway” … “inadequate lights on our bikes!”, another phrase springs to mind!

Great web site and good work!
